Profile

I am Dr. Mallikarjuna Naik Vadithe, a development economist, research scholar, and statistical analyst specializing in tribal studies and development economics. My work explores how data, livelihoods, and indigenous knowledge systems interact to shape sustainable and inclusive futures, particularly in tribal and rural regions of India. I am currently an ICSSR Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Hyderabad, and serve as Administrative Officer (Research) at the Institute for Tribal Development Studies (ITDS).
My research focuses on tribal livelihoods, indigenous knowledge, rural development, public finance, education, health, and climate resilience, grounded in extensive fieldwork across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. I have led and contributed to large-scale surveys, policy evaluations, and village development planning exercises, including studies on PESA Gram Sabhas, Scheduled Tribe Sub-Plan (STSP) implementation, PMAAGY village development plans, and welfare programme outcomes.
I combine rigorous quantitative methods—survey design, sampling, econometric modelling, and impact evaluation—with participatory and qualitative approaches, ensuring that evidence remains closely linked to community realities. A defining feature of my work is the integration of econometric analysis with indigenous knowledge systems, bringing together statistical insight and lived experience.
Alongside my academic work, I am also a .NET programmer and web developer, with experience in building research-driven digital platforms. I write stories and philosophical essays that connect numbers with narratives, aiming to make research meaningful and accessible beyond academic boundaries.
